Prego was awarded the 2007 Wine Enthusiast Award of Distinction, and the 2007 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. It is our eighth year to receive this recognition from Wine Spectator. Selected by Sommelier Rafael Espinal and John Watt our Wine list has received a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence each year from 1998 to 2007. In addition Prego has garnered Wine Enthusiast Awards for best wine list 2004 thru 2007
Soft Shell Crabs are in season...and Prego offers some of the best in town - fresh everyday! They are Romano- and Cornmeal-crusted with a roma tomato lemon butter sauce, served with char-grilled asparagus and truffled potato-stuffed ravioli. They are just one of the delicious items featured on the new spring menu. Other selections are a fantastic Burrata Cheese Salad with pickled yellow beets, heirloom tomatoes, toasted organic hazelnuts and arugula with a citrus vinaigrette; Sliced Porchetta with shaved parmesan cheese, truffle oil, lemon filets and an herb vinaigrette; and Center-Cut Pork Chops with a chianti prune glaze, housemade sweet potato gnocchi and rapini.
Chef John Watt is excited about offering many new simple dishes that offer a healthy, balanced dining experience. He uses pasta that is made from 100% semolina and comes from a little town in Italy. It is "the real thing."
He strives to use food in its purest form and retain the characteristic flavors. He recommends the Farm-raised Pheasant with rapini, sweet potato gnocchi, spaghetti al peperoncino with garlic, flat leaf parsley and extra virgin olive oil.
Wines include Chimney Rock Reserve Cabernet and La Maglia Rosso Di Montalcino. We also feature Babich Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, Alexander Valley Pinot Noir and Estate Baccala merlot from California by the glass.

"Ultimate" NEIGHBORHOOD BISTRO
Prego
October 2007
The small Italian eatery in the Rice Village is one of those perfect default restaurants, the place to go when you can’t think of anywhere else to eat. With its mix of tables and booths, it’s casual and welcoming. The service is attentive, the wine list extensive, the food imaginative but comforting and reasonably priced. Try the pan-roasted mussels or the pan-roasted rabbit scallopini with sliced olives and roasted shallot bianco, or the Sicilian-spiced lamb shops. An added virtue: Parking, at night anyway, is seldom a problem. Be forewarned, however: The birds in the trees that trim nearby lots occasionally relieve themselves — in great numbers — on the cars below.
